Early History

The Zeta Xi Chapter of Order of Omega was chartered at Penn some time in the 1970’s. It was never well-established, and went through several rechartering attempts before 2000. At some point, its members disaffiliated from the university and national organization to form a senior society known as “The O.R.D.E.R.” or more commonly, the senior society “Omega”.

Fall 2014 Rechartering

The chapter’s rechartering was sparked by the initiative of Kenny Jones, Associate Director of the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life. He collected applications in Fall 2014 to select a rechartering class and chose 10 members from the applicant pool. These 10 members took on the initiative as a student organization with Jones as a staff advisor.

Over the next few semesters, the organization grew from its 10 members representing  just 6 chapters to 60 members representing 21 chapters in Spring 2016. The chapter has no plans to continue growing its number of undergraduate members; it will continue to select at the rate of approximately 30 per year.
